Each time MX finds a locked field that differs from its protected value, it adds a row to Activity on the Protect page. The row shows the location, the field, the change and its outcome. A field at one location has at most one open row: if the value changes again, a new row replaces it. Change on Google says whether the business profile itself was edited (Edited on Google) or Google shows its own value (Suggested by Google).

What happens to a change

  • Notify. The row reads Notified and waits for an Owner or Admin. The Dashboard shows a Protect alerts item in Needs attention.
  • Revert. MX sends the protected value back to Google. The row moves from Restoring to Restored.

A restore can’t always run straight away. The row then reads Held, with the reason in plain words, such as “Automations are paused” or “Google needs to be reconnected”. In some cases Protect stops restoring and leaves the decision to an Owner or Admin:

  • If a held restore still can’t run, the row becomes Notified and MX won’t restore that change automatically.
  • If the same field keeps changing at one location, Protect pauses automatic restoration for it there. The row reads Paused after repeats and waits for an Owner or Admin.
  • A change Google suggested before protection started is marked “Google suggested this before protection started” and is never restored automatically.

Restore your value or keep the new one

  1. Open Locations → Protect, or select Protect alerts on the Dashboard. To list only what needs you, choose Needs attention in the outcome filter (it reads All outcomes at first).
  2. Find the row. It shows Google’s value and the protected value.
  3. Choose an action, then confirm it with Confirm restore or Confirm keep:
    • Restore sends the protected value back to Google for this location.
    • Keep Google’s value makes Google’s value the new protected value. For an edit to the profile, nothing is sent to Google. For a Google suggestion, MX sends that value to Google to accept it, then protects it.

Either action also lifts a Paused after repeats stop, so the next outside change is restored again.
